Bed Bug Exterminator & Control Cambridge ON

Bed bug treatment in Cambridge
A bed bug job takes two visits, about 10 to 14 days apart, and the second one is the reason it works. Eggs are cemented into seams and cracks where they are shielded from treatment, and they hatch once the first application has weakened. Anything that kills only what is alive on the day leaves the next generation behind — which is why a single visit often looks successful for a fortnight and then does not.
We are based on Hawkins Drive in Cambridge and cover Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair seven days a week, 9am to 9pm. Our staff are licensed, insured, trained and certified. Call (226) 606-7378 and describe what you have found.
Where bed bugs turn up in Cambridge
Cambridge has an older and more owner-occupied housing stock than its neighbours, and that changes where bed bugs go and how far they travel:
- Century homes in Galt and Preston — deep baseboards, original trim, plank floors with gaps, and layers of wallpaper and moulding. All of it is harbourage, and it means treatment has to reach further than the bed.
- Converted and subdivided houses — large older properties split into two or three units share wall voids and service runs. Bed bugs use those exactly the way they use them in a purpose-built apartment block.
- Apartments and rentals around the Galt core and along the Hespeler Road corridor, where turnover brings second-hand furniture in and out.
- Anywhere second-hand furniture arrives — a mattress, a box spring, an upholstered chair or a headboard is the single most common way bed bugs enter a Cambridge house that has never had them.
One thing worth saying plainly, because people hesitate to call over it: bed bugs are not a cleanliness problem. They feed on people, not on crumbs or mess. Spotless houses get them, and a tidy home simply gives them fewer places to hide.
If you have seen one bed bug
Seeing a single bed bug in the open usually means there are considerably more that you have not seen. They are nocturnal and they spend the day pressed into cracks, so the ones that become visible are a fraction of the population — and by the time they are turning up in daylight the harbourage is generally well established.
It also means it is worth confirming rather than guessing. Bites alone are not a diagnosis: people react very differently to them and some do not react at all. Dark ink-like spotting on the mattress or the wall behind the bed, translucent shed skins in the seams, and live insects about the size of an apple seed are the signs that settle it. If you want it checked before committing to treatment, see our bed bug inspection service.
Is an exterminator worth it for bed bugs?
For anything past a very early, single-room problem, yes — and the reason is specific rather than promotional. Most retail bed bug sprays are contact products with a repellent effect. Sprayed across open surfaces they kill the insects they land on and push the rest deeper into wall voids, adjoining rooms and neighbouring units. A great many of the jobs we attend are harder and more widely spread than they were a month earlier, because the population was scattered before anyone treated it properly.
There is no product, professional or retail, that ends an infestation in one application. What professional treatment brings is coverage of every harbourage in the room rather than the bed alone, products placed into the cracks instead of across surfaces, and the timed second visit for the eggs. For a fuller walk-through of the DIY steps that genuinely help, see how to get rid of bed bugs.
What the treatment covers
We treat the whole room, not the bed. Bed bugs harbour wherever they can touch a surface on both sides, so the working list is mattress and box spring seams, bed frame and headboard joints, the backs and undersides of nightstands and dressers, baseboards and trim, the edge of carpet where it meets the wall, and in older Cambridge houses the gaps around plank flooring and original mouldings. The second visit works the same list again, because that is where newly hatched nymphs will be.
Throwing out the mattress rarely solves it and often makes things worse — the rest of the room is still infested, and carrying an infested mattress through a hallway is how bed bugs reach the rest of a building. If one does have to go, it should be sealed before it leaves the room.
In a converted house or an apartment we will tell you plainly if the neighbouring units need looking at. A treated unit next to an untreated one gets re-infested, and that is usually what is behind a job that appears to fail weeks later.
What changes the cost of a bed bug job
We quote after seeing the property rather than over the phone, because the same infestation in two different houses is not the same piece of work. We keep our bed bug treatment affordable and accessible to everyone, so the job is within reach whatever its size. What moves the number:
- How many rooms are involved. One bedroom caught early is a materially different job from a whole floor.
- How long it has been established. Months of unnoticed activity means more harbourage and more spread.
- Whether anything was sprayed first. Retail products that scattered the population make the job longer.
- Clutter and access. Treatment has to physically reach the harbourage; a room that cannot be worked cannot be fully treated.
- Whether adjacent units need including. In a shared or subdivided building, treating in isolation tends not to hold.
Before we arrive
Preparation is a real part of whether the treatment holds. Strip the bedding and wash it hot, then dry it on high heat — the heat of the dryer is what kills, not the wash. Bag anything you remove from the room and do not move those bags into another room, which is the most common way a one-room problem becomes a two-room problem. Pull beds and furniture 30 to 40 cm off the walls so the baseboards can be reached. And if you have already bought a retail spray, stop using it and tell us — it changes where the insects will be.

Call (226) 606-7378. Tell us which room, what you have actually seen rather than what you suspect, and whether the property is a house, a subdivided house or an apartment — that is usually enough for us to say what the job involves before anyone comes out.
We also cover bed bug treatment in Waterloo and Kitchener. Everything else we do locally is on the Cambridge pest control page.
